Last week we celebrated one of the most loved events on our annual Prep calendar – and with good reason. All the Matrics who started out at Pre-Primary or Prep join us to celebrate their journey, the fun times, the tremendous shaping that took place and the precious memories they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. The foyer wall was lined with photos of the boys and girls – one of when they started at Prep and one of their Matric photo.
A new tradition was born, where the Matrics who were in the Prep Marimba Band were invited impromptu to play the well-known pieces together. It didn’t take long and they played (almost) as if they’d never left. The Old Prep and now College Pipe Major Callum Southey and Pipe Sergeant David Fick played Amazing Grace beautifully to lead everyone into the beautifully decorated Memory Hall. The speeches by our then Prep Headboy William Marx and DSG speaker Jessica Ferreira were poignant and highly amusing as they remembered so many different aspects of their time at Prep.
After a delicious meal served by the Grade 11 Old Preppies, we all went upstairs to Griffin dorm for the traditional and hilarious Monkey Dorm Races. Boys were seated (or hanging onto the sides of) the bunks and cupboards, cheering and shouting for all they were worth. Even the Junior Prep boarders in their pyjamas joined in at the end – very excited (although somewhat tired) boys!
