The Ash Wednesday was solemn, as the Senior Prep boys filed into Centenary Hall this morning in Full Blues. Father David Stansbury explained the meaning of Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday and the significance of the two events. He explained that Lent identifies with Jesus’ 40 days of fasting in the desert in preparation for the mission of coming into the world to save us from sin. Just as Jesus sacrificed His life for us and our salvation, Lent is an opportunity to give ourselves to Him in sacrificial acts of giving up things in order to focus on Him. In the service, Father David explained that Lent is our opportunity is to deal with sin in our life and recommit our lives to Him. The sign of the cross in ash is placed on our foreheads as a reminder to us that we are sinners and that we Jesus to save us.
