Part of the Prep Team – The Legendary Mrs Sharon Lister

Mrs Sharon Lister was born in Port Elizabeth, but grew up in the small farming town of Alexandria. She attended Alexandria High School from Sub A to Standard
10, a dual-medium, co-ed government school. Sharon enjoyed my school career and especially excelled in the sports arena. But it was in teaching Sunday School while in high school that her love for children began.

Sharon was elected Head Girl in matric and gained experience working with people of all ages while still fulfilling her responsibilities.
She went on to study at Port Elizabeth Teachers’ Training College and completed a Higher Diploma in Education. Her first teaching post was at an Afrikaans medium school and the following year she moved to Grahamstown to teach at Oatlands Preparatory School, where she taught for 17 years before accepting a position here at St Andrew’s Junior Prep in 2005.

Sharon is married to Charles Lister and the couple have two amazing grownup children, Rick and Emma. Charles is a wool and mohair producer on a farm in the area for the past 31 years.

“I appreciate the beautiful surroundings, old buildings, gardens, pristine playing fields and the Junior Prep folk,” Sharon says. “I have been blessed and privileged to teach alongside the most amazing people in my time here. Fairlawn is a special place with incredibly hard-working teachers who support and care for each other beyond the call of duty.

“This campus has been my happy working space for the past 15 years,” Sharon continues, “and everyone who has passed through its doors have all played a part in moulding the person and the teacher that I am today.”
