Part of the Prep Team – Grade R Teacher!

Our Grade R.2 Teacher, Megan Yendall was born in our very own Settler’s Hospital here in Makhanda, and grew up in and near Grahamstown, so she is right at home! We asked her to share a little bit about herself so that our families can get to know her. She writes:

I spent a gap year in Jeffrey’s Bay, but have otherwise found myself to be very much rooted in our little Eastern Cape town.
I spent a couple of my early years at the Assumption Convent Preschool and then attended Oatlands Preparatory School for Foundation Phase, where Prep’s very own Mrs Lister was my Grade 3 teacher!

I then went on to complete an excellent schooling career at Victoria Primary and Victoria Girls’ High. After Matric, I attended Victory Gap Year in beautiful Jeffrey’s Bay, and then returned to study towards a BA degree at Rhodes University, majoring in English Literature and Classical Studies. After obtaining my Honours degree in Classics, I completed my Post Graduate certificate in Education. The following year, I started working at Graeme College teaching Computer Literacy to the Junior school, establishing the Junior aftercare and then teaching Grade R to the Leopard Cubs. I left teaching for some time to pursue studies in Integrated Learning Therapy, and, at the start of 2021, I joined the St. Andrew’s Prep family.

I am the third of four children – my older brother is a motor technician, my older sister is a psychologist, and my younger brother is a music teacher/sound technician. My dad passed away in 2010, but I am blessed to still have my mom! I am a dog-mom to two gorgeous mixed breed fur-babies – Sophie and Maggie are my world!

I enjoy a good book and have an ever-growing to-be-read pile. That said, I also have a Netflix account… I’ve recently discovered the joy of paint-by-number kits (thanks lockdown!), and also enjoy the occasional puzzle. There’s nothing I love more than hanging out and playing with my dogs.

The thing I love most about Prep is the children! They are friendly and curious and so full of joy, and one can’t help but drop one’s jaded adult perceptions when engaging with them! I know that every day here is going to contain some laughter!
