Prep's 125th Anniversary in 2010
Celebrating our Past, Creating our Future.
Dear Old Preppies,
St Andrew’s Prep, having opened its doors in 1885, celebrates its 125th Anniversary in 2010. Various events and functions will commemorate this milestone and it is with great pleasure that I advise you of some of these activities. It is our hope that you may be able to join with us in some way in celebrating this special occasion.
In keeping with our theme namely: “Celebrating our Past, Creating our Future”, the following activities are being planned in order to connect with our community and with fellow schools:
- A Birthday Parade on Friday 29 January for the current Preppie boys and girls. This will involve a parade through the town centre. The purpose being to not only celebrate our official birthday, but also to raise awareness within the broader Grahamstown community.
- A “Sport for All” Conference from 10 to 12 September for Independent Schools around the country. This will naturally be a very topical subject in our country’s history with South Africa due to host the Soccer World Cup in June. This will enable us to contribute towards improving the status quo with regards to sport in schools in our land.
- An Old Prep Reunion from 24 to 26 September for Old Boys and Girls. This event is being planned along the lines of our traditional Leaver’s Supper complete with Monkey Races – yes, we still do them! This will be an opportunity to get together with friends, reminisce and celebrate with us.
In order to make this a special year for all those who have been associated with Prep over the years we hope to connect with as many Old Boys and Girls as possible via electronic mail and also via our website. If your personal details have changed please advise our Convenor, Mrs Bev McCarthy (b.mccarthy@saprepschool.com). We have posted a list of Old Preppies with whom we have lost contact on this website (CLICK HERE to see the list). Should you know their contact details kindly pass these on to Bev.
I do trust that you will join with us in making 2010 a very special year in the life of the school and I look forward to meeting you during the year or at the Old Prep Reunion in September if possible.
Kind regards
