Prep Art Auction: Working for a Better World

The poaching of three rhino in Kariega Game Reserve earlier this year sparked off a wave of awareness in South Africa and around the world. Much of this awareness originated in Grahamstown and at St Andrew’s Prep after the school took up the plight of the Rhino in various fund-raising and awareness efforts. Old Preppie Dr William Fowlds, the wildlife Veterinarian who worked on the three rhino, spoke of the experience first-hand and he issued a challenge to those present: “We cannot be the generation that is responsible for their extinction. It is simply not an option.”
St Andrew’s Preppies took this challenge to heart. The Grade 7s created works of art for auction in an effort to help the plight of these endangered animals. Seven of the best art pieces were selected to be auctioned off on-line to raise funds which will go directly to the Kariega Foundation Rhino Fund to help raise funds to keep rhinos as part of our world in future.
To add to this exciting initiative, three signed, silkscreen prints and one original valuable etching, done by renowned South African artist Zakkie Eloff (1925-2004) was donated to the school for the on-line auction. Zakkie’s grandsons are currently at St Andrew’s Prep and the school were extremely grateful to have this artwork at their disposal to auction off as part of the fundraising campaign.
Enjoy the art and thank you for your support in helping
St Andrew’s Prep to save the Rhino
