MAD about MATHS
The St Andrew's Prep pupils have been involved in lots of extra fun Maths activities lately. All the children took part in the International World Maths day recently and clocked up more than 125 hours of 'Mathletics' competing with other children across the globe. The school also held a FUN MATHS evening Steve Sherwin from Living Maths in Cape Town kept the adults and children entertained and challenged and those Maths brains were stretched some more.
St Andrew's Prep boys were delighted have a visit from Jake White, former Springbok coach.
Jake spoke with humour and passion to the Senior Prep boys and staff, sharing many stories and a strong message of 'never give up' with the boys. Jake is seen here with a group of Grade 4 boys after his talk.
125th Tree planting ceremony:
Kingswood Junior School, DSG Junior and St Andrew's College have donated trees to be planted at St Andrew's Prep to commemorate the schools 125th Anniversary. Representatives of the 3 schools as well as all the Preppies were in attendance during the ceremony where Mr Gooden (Headmaster of Prep) spoke to the children of the significance of trees for our environment and as symbols of the future.
Albany swimming team:
The St Andrew's Prep swimmers have once again done extremely well and have made up large numbers in the Albany swimming team! Well done to all these boys and girls for making the Albany side and for representing our district at the inter-district gala held in Port Alfred (missing from photo Justin Taylor).
Hilton Adonis from the Department of Sport and Recreation sent this photo where they have started with the distribution of the tennis balls, collected as part of our Prep 125th celebrations. S far they have visited Manley Flats Farm School, Salem Farm School, Kwamala Farm School and Satinghomso Farm school.
U13 Cricket tour to KZN:
The St Andrew's Prep U13A cricket team attended the Independent Schools Cricket Festival held in KZN recently. 12 schools took part, with a visiting team from the UK as well as Ruzawi from Zimbabwe participating. The host school was Highbury Prep School, with some of the matches being played at Kearsney College.
The River Mile:
What a glorious day it was for this challenging event. It was wonderful to see the determination with which the swimmers tackled the distance and all the enthusiastic support from parents and friends of the school.
The St Andrew's Prep marimba band recently enjoyed a weekend away on a Marimba camp organized by their teachers Mr Daniel Hutchinson and Hilton Broerwa at the Amakhala Conservation centre.
The band had a day of intensive workshops run by marimba teacher and player, Badge Tapembera from Zimbabwe, who said of the boys 'I have rarely taught such a responsive and talented group of boys who are so quick to learn'. During the course of the weekend the band played twice for appreciative audiences at Amakhala as well to the congregation of the Sidbury Chapel on the Sunday. Lots was learned and great fun was had by all in the 2010 Prep marimba band.
We just love cricket!
Dale Brody, Daniel Davies, Robert Shone and Veer Bills are just thrilled that they are back into cricket season. They are seen here on Fairlawn field warming up before their first game of the year.
ANTI-BULLYING AWARENESS WEEK:
Ryan Dugmore (Headboy St Andrew's College), James Price (Deputy Head) and Robert Morris (Prefect) addressed our Preppies at assembly this morning (25 January) as part of College's Anti-Bullying Awareness Week.
PICNIC AT GREY DAM:
The St Andrew's Prep School boys enjoyed the traditional beginning of year picnic at Grey Dam on Sunday. There was fudge making in groups over open fires, swimming and a braai for all to enjoy. What a great ice-breaker and start to the school year! A great way for new boys and old, staff and parents to get to know one another and have loads of fun in the process.
