Dads vs Lads Leavers Cricket:

St Andrew's Prep recently planted 3 trees to commemorate this year's Arbour month, as a way of leaving something behind for posterity for generations to come.
The trees were indigenous (Nuxia Floribundas, common name is 'Forest Elder') and should give great pleasure to those who enjoy their shade and beauty for many years to come.

The St Andrew's Junior Prep children celebrated the end of the school year and the start of the Festive season with a wonderful Carol Service in the St Andrew's College Chapel.
Father Christmas even made a surprise visit at the end of the service and gave each child a small gift and a hug before departing with a cheery Ho-Ho-Ho!...

These Grade 7 boys and girls from St Andrew's Prep and DSG Junior have been together since Grade 00 and gathered together recently to watch the little Prep Pre-Primary children put on their end of year concert. It was a trip down memory lane for them all!

Michal Turner came to watch his little sister Wendy-Mae perform in the St Andrew's Prep Pre-Primary end of year Nativity concert... Wendy-Mae was the bright 'star' of the show.

The Prep Pre-Primary children enthralled parents and guests at their end of year Nativity Concert.
Amongst others there were angels, rugby players, Alabama girls and of course the shepherds, sheep, wise men, Mary, Joseph and the Inn Keeper!

The St Andrew's Senior Prep choir enthralled all who attended the traditional end of year Carol Service.
A wonderful way to mark the end of the school year and the approach of the holidays and Festive Season.

St Andrew's Prep - Senior Eight
In line with tradition, St Andrew's Prep School annually chooses eight or more boys at this time of year from the group of Grade 7 learners who have all had equal opportunity to lead and have had responsibilities throughout the year as part of a "senior leadership programme".  Boys and staff vote for the Grade 7 pupils who they feel encompass not only outstanding leadership qualities, but also display values such as integrity, compassion, self-respect, respect for others and who inculcate the ethos of the school. In short, True, Blue Preppies.
This year's Senior Eight are from left:

Back: Sazi Sandi. Nicholas Kroon, Michael Turner
Middle: Matthew Leach, Peter Tharratt and Vuyo Ketwa
Front: Timothy Bloem (Deputy), William Marx (Head boy) and Bruce Phillips (Deputy)

St Andrew's Prep has raised in excess of R5200.00 in support of the Sunflower Fund once again this year, this is a national programme to raise awareness and funds for The South African Bone Marrow Registry. The Preppies donned brightly coloured bandanas on the 12th October to support this worth cause. A Prep teacher Miss Elaine Clarke has opted to shave her head for the same cause and through staff donations substantial funds have been raised for the Sunflower Fund too.
St Andrew's Prep has embarked on a special outreach project for the remainder of this year called 'Super Sandwich Wednesday'.
Each Prep child brings an extra nutritious sandwich to school on a Wednesday and one of the Prep parents delivers it to Andrew Moyake School in Grahamstown.  This school does not benefit from the Government feeding scheme and many of the children come to school hungry and do not have anything to eat during the school day either.  Prep is hoping that together with the broader Grahamstown community, who are also helping the school on other days, that this small contribution will help just a little.

St Andrew's Prep enjoyed its annual Sports Day on Friday.
In wonderful warm weather conditions, the boys and girls participated in a large number of events, from the Pre-Primary race, High Jump, Long Jump, Cricket ball throw, Skipping to the 1500m to name but a few.  The emphasis is always on participation and every child has a chance to take part in a number of events.
No fewer than 13 records were broken on the day. Congratulations especially must go to Dale Brody (U9) for breaking the 75m, 100m,400m and Cricket Ball 46;17m records and to Timothy Bloem (U13) for breaking the 100m, 200m  and 400m records.
A great days athletics was enjoyed by all to end of the bust athletics season.

Junior Orchestra Tour to Cradock:
http://gallery.saprepschool.com/index.php?/category/287
The DSG/Prep Junior Orchestra Tour to Cradock was a great success with performances at the Fish River Tennis Club, the OKUK festival at the Moederkerk in Cradock, and the Elizabeth Jordaan Old Age Home.
The orchestra stayed at the Lowlands farm on the Fish River from the 2nd to the 4th of October and were hosted by Old Andrean Dave Bowker and his wife Anne. They enjoyed swimming, playing tennis and a walk to see Khoisan rock etchings on the farm. They also visited Karoo Cats, a conservation project run by Richard and Marion Holmes dedicated to the four smaller species of South African wild cats: the rare black footed cat, the African wild cat, the cerval and the caracal.
It was a wonderful introduction for many in the orchestra to the beauty of life in the Karoo, while the Cradock audiences enjoyed a cultural visit from Grahamstown, home of many excellent schools, Rhodes University and the National Arts Festival. The tour highlighted the connection between the two prominent Eastern Cape towns.
The DSG/Prep Junior Orchestra is for boys and girls from Gr 4 to Gr 7 and includes string instruments, wind instruments and percussion. It is conducted by Daniel Hutchinson with assistance from Dorothy Holder and Margie Laing. The touring children were accompanied by Mr. Hutchinson and Mrs. Holder and were driven by Mr. Zingela from the DSG transport department.

Prep has its annual Camp Out at Table Farm and 15km and 5km Sponsored Walk this past weekend.
The perfect weather conditions made for an excellent walk (a run, for some energetic boys) back to Fairlawn along the 15km route, through picturesque farms, with wild flowers in abundance and dams full to over-flowing. The 5km walkers enjoyed their route accompanied by enthusiastic family dogs, babies in carriers and family members young and old, all out in the beautiful Spring morning. Everyone returned to Prep's Fairlawn field after expending a good dose of energy, to enjoy refreshments and lunch under the oaks.

The St Andrew's Prep Grade 4 class was very excited when their teacher Mrs Hobson invited the Makana Mayor Mr Peter to visit the class this week.
Mr Peter is a father of one of the Grade 4 boys at Prep and was able to talk the boys about his own schooling background and the type of work and responsibilities he is involved in as Mayor of our town.

St Andrew's Prep took part on the Graeme College Quadrangular athletics meeting on the 28th September.
Prep did extremely well and the athletes acquitted themselves well in all codes.  Special mention must go to Timothy Bloem for beating the U13 100m record as well as to Luke Hobson for winning both the 800m and 1500m races.
