Another entry into the annuls of history was made last week when St Andrew’s Preparatory School licenced the first St Andrew’s Prep Chaplain in over 100 years.
In a solemn ceremony led by the Bishop of Grahamstown, the Right Reverend Ebenezer Ntlali; Reverend Monwabisi Peter was welcomed as the Chaplain of Prep.
Prep’s first Headmaster, Robert George Mullins, was an ordained minister who took over headship in 1904. Since then, Prep has been overseen by Headmasters who were part of the Church, although not ordained. In recent years, the St Andrew’s College Chaplain, Rev. Gary Griffith-Smith has taken services at Prep.
The swearing-in service included readings by the Prep pupils and Heads of Department, a song by the choir and a poignant message from Bishop Ntlali.
