Grahamstown has a rich history and a wealth of places to explore when learning about history, flora and fauna, astronomy and much more. Around Grahamstown, there are game reserves, the ocean, aquaponics farms, hiking trails, dams and villages that offer a wealth of knowledge and opportunities.
Each year, except for the past two years when the Covid-19 Pandemic did not allow it, the National Arts Festival has visited Makhanda/Grahamstown with its vibrant colour, beautiful music and stimulating drama from exceptionally talented artists from around the globe. St Andrew’s Prep hosts the Children’s Arts Festival which runs concurrently. Although we have had to suspend the programme as a result of the Pandemic, we aim to reintroduce workshops, plays and exhibitions in 2023. It is the only festival of its kind in South Africa. Children from near and far attend a whirlwind week of fun and activity.
Prep is globally minded and we teach our Preppies to be the same. Considering our place in the world, our footprint on it and our influence are vital components of being a True Blue Preppie. Prep is an Eco school and runs an active and competitive Eco Club. Our children support Island Hospice, Mandela Day and Bandanna Day, as well as getting involved with the local SPCA and old-age homes where we can.
