1:1 iPad Programme Information

Grade 000 – Grade 5

No devices are required. The school provides access to iPads when required.

Grade 6 & Grade 7

Pupils are required to bring their own iPad as part of the prescribed accessory list.
The minimum requirement is that your iPad should run the latest version of the Apple Operating System (OS) release by Apple.
You can confirm the latest Apple OS here
The version of Apple OS on your device can be confirmed here.
The Apple website lists the supported models here
Currently (2020), the minimum specification device is the iPad Air (Generation 5), 32GB with WiFi. This model is no longer for sale, but if your family already has one, this will be sufficient.
If you are buying a new iPad, the equivalent base model is iPad (Generation 7), 32GB with WiFi.
If you wish to purchase a device that will last longer, we recommend the iPad Air or the iPad Pro.

he iPad Air 2 (Generation 4) model is no longer for sale (although existing models will be sufficient for use).
If you are buying a new iPad, the equivalent base model is iPad (Generation 7), 32GB with WiFi.
For a higher specification machine that is likely to be supported for longer, we would recommend iPad Air or the iPad Pro.

iPADs are available from several leading retailers. In addition, the school has arranged two Special Offers, described below.
iStore Voucher
A 3% discount voucher for the iStore via ThinkAhead is available. This voucher would be redeemed in an iStore. Register for the deal online: http://www.thinkahead.co.za/parent-offer/

DigiCape Online Store
Parents can take advantage of online purchasing and delivery with discounted pricing. DigiCape have launched a parent portal where the parents can access educational pricing and bundle specials, together with the ease of online purchasing with free delivery.
Digicape have 2 different portals:

  1. iPads only
  2. iPads and MacBooks

DigiCape recommends that orders be placed at the latest before the end of November to avoid stock issues relating to the Christmas and the ‘Back to School’ rush.
Products are updated as the pricing and/or product offerings change. We cannot guarantee that a price or product will be available.
Please note that, although the school has negotiated the offer, all transactions must occur between the parent and DigiCape, and the school will not be involved in payments or shipments.
Both retailers also offer discounts of up to 10% on accessories such as iPad covers.

The minimum requirement for the iPAD is ‘WiFi only’.
The school provides access to WiFi in all the learning and boarding spaces on campus.
There are pros and cons to each option, namely:\

  1. Adding a 3G/4G data card to an iPad increases the price of the device, and you would need to activate a data SIM card (and pay for any data used via 3G/4G connection).
  2. When a student uses their 3G/4G data access they bypass the school’s firewall protections. Therefore, parents selecting this option need to consider further controls on the iPad to restrict access to unwanted sites. When using the school’s WiFi these protections are in place.
  3. Having a 3G card offers the ‘FindMyDevice’ option if the device is stolen and taken off campus.
Please note that Prep does not allow the use of 3G/4G cards on campus.
